Latvian braid cast on my way on Xylitol mitts for DH., a photo by BlueDragon2 on Flickr.
I didn't understand the pattern directions (too tired from work, I guess) so I did my own version. Now the designer has posted expanded directions which I'll use on the next pair -my class sample.

Oldest niece's Multnomah shawlette blocking, will mail it next week., a photo by BlueDragon2 on Flickr.
Finally got the shawlette done, washed and pinned it out last night. I think by the end of the day it will be dry. This is the third time I've knit this pattern - it's a great go-to pattern for a quick gift. Definitely a pattern to have in one's library.
Now to get back to DH's socks so he can have a wrapped present under the tree Tuesday night, lol. I asked him for a box of dark chocolates under the tree, as I'm driving my presents for the next year, hehehe.

I'm picking up in the outside leg of the stitch below the round I'm working on and really like how it's looking in the STR LW yarns. It's giving a nice crisp line to the edge of the thumb gusset.

It's a good thing I decided to go down to size zero dpns for these mittens - ones would have been too big. My gauge at this point is about nine stitches to the inch, while the pattern calls for ten to the inch with fingering weight yarn. My hands are large, so this will work out well. I just need to make sure my gauge doesn't relax. After all the sweaters I've been working on the last nine months, it's nice to work on something quick for a change.

Got halfway through the large circles chart tonight while enjoying my last day of vacation. Hope to get this chart finished this week - I can almost feel myself wearing a new sweater!
Ready to cast on 10-01-13 for start of KAL. I'm using some sock yarns left over from finishing the toes of socks. The gold will be the background color and the bright green the design color.

I've decided that I will do the second mitten, but this winter, after I get some other mittens done in time for the KAL on Ravelry. I think I'm just getting burned out fighting to knit on these in a bouncing, swaying car, but I can't face the second mitten right away. I'm going to finish this one except for the thumb. I've noticed that my tension is looser where I'm carrying four colors while bouncing along, so I'll have to match that tension on the second mitten. Also, I tried catching long carries in the four color sections and it really messes up the tension and the evenness of the knitting, so I quit. Since I'm using Shetland wool, it will stick to itself easily and the long strands shouldn't be a problem in the finger area.

About five hours of knitting equals two rounds of circles., a photo by BlueDragon2 on Flickr.
Good progress for a day of car knitting!

First Zemgale mitten halfway to the tip from the thumb., a photo by BlueDragon2 on Flickr.
Very sore fingers from working in this in a bouncing car over mountain and desert roads! But I'm making good progress so it balances out.

While on the road and at stops I was able to make good progress on my first mitten. I put 25 stitches for the thumb on a piece of waxed dental floss, so it will be easier to pick them up to work the thumb. Now I'm doing the next section, with three and four colors in the rounds.

Cast off the second sock tonight - so happy to have them finished! Notice in the picture that the design is not centered, this is how the designer set the pattern up. It gives the design more interest, to me. I can't wait to wear them to knitting group in two weeks!

Incendia MCN worsted weight from Three Fates Yarns, a photo by BlueDragon2 on Flickr.
I had Stephania custom dye three skeins for me to design kilt hose with. I think it's time they went for my mind's eye to my needles! I'm suggesting a Mystery KAL on the Celtic Art Lovers group on Ravelry starting October first.
Sirkler sleeves with small circle pattern and increase every five rounds., a photo by BlueDragon2 on Flickr.
Haven't had much time to work on this this past week as I've been focusing more on Zauberflote. But I did want to establish the small circle pattern. I centered a circle at the top of the sleeve for symmetry. Now it's easy to pick up and knit a bit on it with the small circle chart. Since I'm doing both sleeves at the same time, I'm not bothering to record the increases. This is a design I will likely only knit one time, as the designer has another one I am already promising myself to knit next year. Saint Olav and His Men is a wonderful Scandinavian design and she even created a cardigan version for those of us on the Ravelry Stranded group - is that an awesome designer or what?!

Ready to start the toes on my first Whovian Argyles sock., a photo by BlueDragon2 on Flickr.
The sock fits perfectly - not too tight and not saggy. Toe will be in the Denim Blues to balance the yarn usage.

Zauberflote sleeve progress, about halfway down the armhole., a photo by BlueDragon2 on Flickr.
I've been working diligently today on the first sleeve and am about at the halfway point down the armhole. I'm picking up in each row as I work down and it looks to be an appropriate rate at this point.
One thing I will do for the second sleeve is to make three copies of the main chart. Then I will use a fine point highlighter to draw the shape of the sleeve on the charts. That will make pattern continuity much easier.

Green yarn to finish toes on my Dumbledore's Christmas socks. Hope to get them done this weekend.

Doing two-at-a-time on a sixteen inch circular so I don't stretch the ribbing out. I'm glad I decided to start with a dark color, it gives a better visual line to the bottom of the sleeves.
Thursday, August 22, 2013
I finished the body tonight and am going to cast on the sleeves to be knit two-at-a-time so the color pattern matches on both sleeves. I'm now past the halfway point on my sweater! The sleeves have the small circles pattern over most of the length, so I'm hoping they knit up quickly.
Wednesday, August 21, 2013
I'm staying with the smaller needles for the foot for a snugger fit and I started the foot patterns as soon as I joined into a round for continuity.
Saturday, August 17, 2013
I'm doing my usual heel as I've found it works best for me. These socks and yarn are too special to use a heel that I am unsure will fit and wear well for me.
Friday, August 16, 2013
I ripped out the first try at my shaped sleeve cap because it wasn't going to match the way I wanted to. This try is looking so much better but I'll know better after I get more knit on it.

Got the front neck decreases started today and just have 4 more rounds to knit on the 5th circle. Then the flower chart and the bottom pattern on the front and I'm ready to start the sleeves!
DH's Henry VIII cardigan progress on first pattern repeat., a photo by BlueDragon2 on Flickr.
DH loves how the colors are coming together and is hoping to wear his sweater this coming winter (best see what I can do to make that happen, lol!).
